Department of Mathematics and Information Technologies

Department of Languages and Social Sciences

The department provides instruction and training in the following subjects – First Foreign Language (English, German), Second Foreign Language (English, German, Russian, Spanish), , Rhetorics and Communication, Psychology for Managers and Sociology for Managers.
DLSS carries out associated scholarly, research and development activities and provides language support for other PUCES departments.

B – structure of study

Academic degrees

After finishing the undergraduate programme (six or seven semesters), PUCES graduates are awarded a Bachelor’s degree (Bc.).
After completing follow-up graduate courses (four semesters), the graduates are granted a Master's degree (Ing.).

Entrance requirements and admission

Admission to PUCES is conditional upon the completion of full secondary general or vocational education (A-level or equivalent). Admission to the follow-up Master’s degree courses is conditional on passing Bachelor’s degree final examinations. (The admission interview covers all aspects of PUCES study programme given below.) 

Possibilities of further education

The Bachelor’s degree qualifies its holders for entering a profession or a Master’s degree study programme. The Master’s degree (Ing.) qualifies for a professional career or doctoral university studies.

C – Characteristics of study courses and graduates’ profiles

PUCES offers an undergraduate (Bachelor’s degree) study programme Economics and Management, containing the curricula of three accredited study branches Management of Organizations, Accounting and International Economics and Law in Enterprise.
Since autumn 2009, PUCES has been running the follow-up Master’s degree programme Economics and Management, offering three specializations - Strategic Management, Corporate Finance Management and International Business Management.

In both undergraduate and follow-up Master’s programmes, PUCES prepares highly qualified managerial staff and accountants in both full-time (daily) and combined (combination of full- and part-time) modes of study; the former being designed for three (Bachelor’s degree prg.) and two (Master’s degree prg.) years, the latter for three and a half and two years respectively. PUCES course load consists of compulsory and optional subjects. Its integral part are work placements in collaborating organizations.

Economics and Management undergraduate study programme:

Management of Organizations course of study is aimed at developing essential managerial competencies enabling undergraduates to ensure proper functioning of lower and middle management of businesses and other institutions.
The study branch International Economics and Law in Enterprise develops proper understanding of economic integration principles within the EU and global market, undergraduates acquiring knowledge and skills in the fields of commercial, European and international law.
Accounting course of study, preparing undergraduates for the profession of an accounts specialist, develops necessary up-to-date accounting knowledge, skills and meticulousness.

The undergraduates

  • are familiar with current trends in micro- and macroeconomics, the related (inter)national market economic policies and their impacts on businesses;
  • understand economic processes going on in (inter)national organizations and are able to influence them, using the acquired managerial and accounting skills;
  • are well-versed in the use of professional literature and other resources both in mother and foreign language, being able to assess and present research results and propose decisions.

Economics and Management follow-up Master’s study programme:

Strategic Management specialization focuses on deepening the strategic and operational management knowledge and skills, innovative and systematic approaches and the internationalization of enterprise in the globalized economy. It is based on project management principles and understanding of HR management theory and practice.

Corporate Finance Management specialization builds on the knowledge of corporate finance, managerial accounting, financial markets and strategic financial planning. It covers the methodology of audit within the issues of controlling.   

International Business Management specialization equips postgraduate students with knowledge and skills relevant to international enterprise environment, encompassing courses and seminars in international law, business operations and economics. Strategic and operating management case studies and games are incorporated into the curriculum.

The graduates

  • are familiar with up-to-date theories and methodologies of modern management, being able to adapt to the ever-changing operating management contexts, innovations, organizational changes of corporate environment and the increasing role of intellectual capital;
  • are trained in strategic and systemic thinking and decision-making;
  • are able to work on research projects and case studies independently, employing basic scientific methods and foreign-language resources;
  • can hold posts in middle management and have professional qualifications even for top management positions.
